SOME BY MI's Lacto Soy cleansing oil targets a specific user: someone with oily or combination skin who wants thorough sunscreen and makeup removal without the pore-congestion risks of heavy cleansing oils. The formulation uses lactic acid fermented soybean extracts as the hero, producing a postbiotic-rich oil that cleanses while supporting skin balance. Most cleansing oils rely on mineral oil or heavy triglycerides; this one uses a lighter fermented soybean base that rinses cleaner.
The "sebum and blackhead" positioning matches real performance. Oil-based cleansing is ironically better for oily skin than foam alone because "like dissolves like" applies: dense oil-based sunscreens and excess sebum dissolve in oil cleansers more completely than in foam. When emulsified and rinsed properly, the process leaves pores cleaner than a foam-only cleanse can achieve.
Fermented soybean oil dissolves sunscreen, makeup, and sebum at the pore opening. The lactic acid fermentation process produces postbiotic metabolites that support skin barrier function during cleansing. The emulsifier system turns the oil milky with water contact, allowing clean rinse with no residue. Daily PM use over 3 to 4 weeks typically reduces visible blackheads and supports more balanced sebum production.
Apply to dry skin and dry hands. Dispense 2 to 3 pumps, massage across face for 30 to 60 seconds, paying attention to nose and chin blackhead zones. Add a small amount of lukewarm water, continue massaging until the oil emulsifies into a milky lotion. Rinse thoroughly. Follow with a low-pH foaming cleanser as the second cleanse. Use in PM; morning use is usually unnecessary unless heavily-soiled overnight.
When properly emulsified and rinsed, no. Pore congestion from oil cleansers typically comes from skipping the water-emulsification step or using too little water to rinse. The formulation itself is designed for oily skin tolerance.
DHC uses olive oil base, which is heavier and better suited to dry skin. Banila Co is a balm format. SOME BY MI Lacto Soy is lighter than both, targets oily skin specifically, and adds fermentation benefits. For oily skin: SOME BY MI. For dry skin: DHC. For heavy makeup: Banila Co.
Daily PM use: 3 to 4 months.
Not recommended. Emulsified oil rinses mostly clean but a trace residue can remain. A gentle low-pH foam cleanse as step two removes the residue and any leftover grime.
Indirectly. Cleaner pores reduce new breakout formation over weeks. It does not treat active pimples directly. Pair with a targeted BHA leave-on treatment for stubborn blackhead zones.
Pair with SOME BY MI Bye Bye Blackhead Cleanser as the second cleanse, or follow with SOME BY MI Yuja Niacin Anti Blemish Serum for brightening. Browse the full SOME BY MI collection.
