SKIN1004 built its brand on direct sourcing of Centella Asiatica from Madagascar, where the plant grows in nutrient-dense volcanic soil that produces higher concentrations of the asiaticoside and madecassoside compounds that make Centella functional in skincare. The Light Cleansing Oil applies that sourcing story to a first-step cleanser, which is a smart place for Centella to sit: the 60 seconds it spends massaged into your skin is enough to deliver actives while doing the job a cleansing oil has to do.
At $38.37 for 200ml, this sits squarely in the upper-mid range of Korean cleansing oils, priced above COSRX and The Face Shop, below Sulwhasoo and Hera. What you're paying for is the Centella concentration and the light texture, which doesn't leave the heavy residue common to cheaper plant-oil cleansers. It emulsifies cleanly, rinses without film, and leaves skin calm rather than squeaky.
The oil phase dissolves sunscreen, makeup, and sebum buildup at the end of the day. Centella Asiatica extract calms UV-induced redness and low-grade inflammation that accumulates over a typical day. The "light" positioning refers to texture: this is a thinner oil that rinses cleaner than rich plant-oil blends, which matters for users who hate the sticky residue of heavier cleansing oils. It works as a standalone for minimal-makeup days and as the first step of a double cleanse for full makeup or heavy SPF days.
Apply 2 to 3 pumps to dry skin. Massage gently for 30 to 60 seconds to dissolve sunscreen, makeup, and daily buildup. Add a small amount of lukewarm water to emulsify (the oil turns milky white), massage briefly again, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with a water-based cleanser for a full double cleanse, or go straight to toner for a single cleanse on low-product days.
For stubborn eye makeup: hold a saturated cotton pad against the lashes for 10 seconds, then wipe gently downward. Do not rub the eye area aggressively; the cleansing oil does the work if you let it sit.
Lower risk than most cleansing oils. The plant oil blend avoids the heavier comedogenic triggers (coconut oil, isopropyl myristate at high levels). That said, any oil cleanser requires thorough rinsing on acne-prone skin. Some acne-prone users prefer a water-based balm or gel as the first cleanse instead.
Different philosophies. DHC is olive-oil-based, heavier, with no targeted skincare actives. SKIN1004 is lighter and includes Centella for skincare benefit during cleansing. For simple sunscreen removal with zero extras: DHC. For active-infused cleansing with skincare benefit: SKIN1004. DHC is cheaper; SKIN1004 justifies the upcharge with the Centella component.
Mild stinging possible if product gets directly into the eye, but less than many cleansing oils. The light formulation and low fragrance reduce reactivity. For contact lens wearers: remove lenses before cleansing.
With once-daily use at 2 to 3 pumps: 2 to 3 months. For twice-daily users or heavy-makeup wearers using more product per application: 6 to 8 weeks. The bottle size is standard for a double-cleanse routine.
Yes, on low-product days (no makeup, minimal SPF indoors). For standard SPF and any makeup, a second cleanse is cleaner and reduces pore congestion over time. The Centella doesn't substitute for a proper water-based second cleanse on high-product days.
Pair with COSRX Pure Fit Cica Toner for a Centella-continued routine, or BANILA CO Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm for a balm alternative first step.
