Powder cleansers are a distinctive Korean format: single-use sachets of fine enzyme-based powder that you activate with water to produce a gentle foaming cleanser. Isntree's Mugwort Calming Powder Wash uses mugwort (Artemisia) extract alongside papain and bromelain enzymes for mild exfoliation. The single-use format is hygienic (no preservative build-up), travel-friendly, and good for users who like a fresh, unopened cleansing experience each time. 25 sachets at $32 makes each use about $1.28.
Mugwort is a traditional Korean herbal ingredient with strong anti-inflammatory effects, popular in K-beauty for soothing sensitive skin. Enzymes provide gentle chemical exfoliation that's kinder than physical scrubs and less intense than AHA/BHA. This is a good weekly or twice-weekly treatment cleanser rather than a daily product.
Fruit enzymes (papain, bromelain) provide gentle surface exfoliation by breaking down dead skin cell proteins. Mugwort extract delivers anti-inflammatory support, calming redness and buffering sensitivity. Fine rice or oat-derived powder base provides slight physical exfoliation when massaged. Result: smoother, calmer skin after use, without the irritation of traditional exfoliants.
Open one sachet. Pour powder into damp palm. Add a small amount of water and rub to activate into a light foam. Massage over damp face for 30 to 60 seconds, focusing on T-zone. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Pat dry. Follow with toner and moisturizer. Use 1 to 3 times per week. Not intended as daily cleanser.
Enzymes work on surface proteins; AHAs dissolve intercellular cement. Different exfoliation mechanisms. Enzymes are gentler and don't affect pH the way AHAs do. For sensitive skin, enzyme powders. For deeper exfoliation, AHAs.
1 to 3 times per week. More often can over-exfoliate even with gentle enzymes. If you're also using other exfoliants (acid toners, retinoids), reduce frequency.
Yes, generally. The gentle exfoliation helps clear pore buildup without aggressive stripping. For active breakouts, spot-treat rather than massaging the powder directly over active pimples.
Technically yes, but not economical. Each 1g sachet is sized for face use. For body enzyme treatment, look at dedicated body products.
Twice-weekly use: 3 months. Once-weekly: 6 months.
