Isntree's Mugwort Calming Clear Nose Pack reinvents the classic pore strip format with a Korean soothing-ingredient twist. Traditional pore strips (Biore-style) are aggressive adhesive patches that rip blackheads out mechanically; they work but often leave skin red, tight, and irritated for hours. Isntree replaces some of the aggression with mugwort (Artemisia) extract, known for calming inflamed skin, and designs the pack as a 2-step or soothed extraction. At $24.96 for 5 nose packs, the price reflects a specialty weekly-use product.
Mugwort has been used in traditional Korean medicine for centuries, particularly for skin irritation and calming. Modern formulations extract the anti-inflammatory compounds (artemisinin, others) and combine them with skincare actives. In this nose pack context, mugwort helps the skin handle the extraction stress better, reducing the post-strip redness and tightness that makes regular pore strips feel like a battle.
The pore strip adheres to the nose surface and, as it dries, bonds with sebum and blackheads in pores. When peeled off, it removes the surface blackheads and surface sebum plugs along with the strip. Mugwort extract reduces the inflammation and redness that typical strips cause. The cumulative effect over 4 to 6 weeks of weekly use is reduced blackhead density on the nose, without the tight-red aftermath of traditional strips.
Wet the nose thoroughly with warm water, which opens pores and softens sebum. Press the strip against the wet nose, smoothing out air pockets. Wait 10 to 15 minutes for complete drying. Peel off slowly from edges toward the center. Rinse the nose with cool water to close pores. Apply a soothing toner (like the Isntree Aloe Soothing Gel) to calm the area. Follow with moisturizer.
Don't use more than once weekly; the extraction process can damage skin with overuse. After use, skin is vulnerable; avoid sun exposure for the next 24 hours and apply SPF the following morning.
Surface blackheads and sebaceous filaments: yes, mechanically. Deep-set blackheads that aren't fully surfaced: no. Pore strips work on what's already at the pore opening, not what's deeper in. For deeper blackheads, BHA toner plus clay masks over weeks is the evidence-based approach.
Biore is the original Western pore strip, aggressive adhesive, no skincare actives. Isntree adds mugwort for calming and is slightly less aggressive in adhesion. For pure extraction power: Biore. For gentler extraction with reduced irritation: Isntree.
The concern that pore strips "stretch" pores is partially myth, partially real. Used weekly, pore strips don't permanently enlarge pores. Used multiple times per week, the constant mechanical stress can reduce skin elasticity around pores over time, making them appear larger. Weekly use is the safe ceiling.
Yes, mugwort is generally well-tolerated and used for its calming properties. Patch test the strip on a small area first if you have known adhesive sensitivities; the calming ingredient is safe, but the adhesive itself can still irritate some sensitive skin.
At least 7 days. The skin needs time to recover its barrier after extraction. For light-use maintenance, 2 weeks between uses is even better.
Pair with Isntree Aloe Soothing Gel for post-strip calming, or follow with a BHA toner from the BHA collection for deeper pore work.
