innisfree's Green Tea Enzyme Vitamin C Brightening Serum combines two of the brand's strongest ingredients: Jeju green tea (the brand's signature) and vitamin C for brightening. The formula uses a stabilized form of vitamin C paired with green tea extract's catechins, which create a synergistic antioxidant effect (green tea helps stabilize and boost vitamin C performance).
This is innisfree's step up into active-treatment territory. Most innisfree products focus on hydration and maintenance; this serum targets actual pigmentation and dullness. At $62 for 50ml, it's mid-range for vitamin C serums: not as cheap as COSRX, not as clinical as SKINCEUTICALS, but a solid middle-ground pick.
Stabilized vitamin C (typically an ascorbic acid derivative or ethyl ascorbic acid) brightens pigmentation and supports collagen production. Green tea catechins (EGCG specifically) provide potent antioxidant protection and stabilize the vitamin C. The combination is synergistic: green tea protects vitamin C from oxidation, and vitamin C amplifies the catechin brightening effect. Over 6 to 10 weeks, pigmentation fades and skin looks brighter.
Apply 3 to 4 drops to clean, toned skin in the AM. Pat in, follow with moisturizer and SPF (mandatory when using vitamin C). Can be used PM but AM delivers the most benefit by leveraging the photoprotective synergy with SPF.
L-ascorbic acid is more potent but more irritating and less stable. Stabilized forms like this product are gentler, easier to layer, and still effective over longer timelines.
Rarely. Vitamin C doesn't typically cause purging the way retinoids can.
Yes, but easier to alternate: vitamin C AM, retinol PM. Layering both PM can over-tax sensitive skin.
Generally yes. Vitamin C is considered pregnancy-friendly. Consult your OB.
Glow: 2 to 4 weeks. Pigmentation fading: 6 to 10 weeks.
