ETUDE's Play Color Eyes line is the brand's flagship eyeshadow palette series, with multiple themed colorways. The Whipping edition features soft, muted, wearable shades designed around a cream-and-dessert aesthetic. 11.75g across the palette is a reasonable amount of product for a daily-use palette. Korean eyeshadow palettes tend toward softer, more blendable formulations than the high-pigment Western palettes (like Urban Decay or Anastasia Beverly Hills), suiting the subtler Korean makeup aesthetic.
At $22.98, the pricing is accessible for a multi-shade palette. Compared to Western palettes at $40 to $55, ETUDE delivers comparable shade ranges at significantly lower prices, with formulations suited to everyday Korean makeup looks.
The palette contains multiple shadow shades designed to coordinate: typically a lid base, a mid-tone crease color, a deeper crease color, and accent or shimmer shades. The "Whipping" theme suggests soft, cream-inspired tones (pinks, peaches, neutrals). The formulations blend easily and build gradually, suiting subtle gradient looks rather than dramatic smoky eyes.
For everyday wear: use a lid base color across the full lid, a mid-tone in the crease to add depth, and a deeper shade on the outer corner for definition. Blend with a fluffy brush to soften edges. For dimension, add a shimmer shade at the lid center.
For sunset or gradient looks (popular in K-beauty), apply warmer tones at the outer corner, lighter tones at the inner corner, and blend in the middle. This creates the "sunset" effect Korean makeup tutorials often demonstrate.
Same line, different colorway. Whipping is the soft cream edition; other Play Color palettes feature different themes (berry, mousse, wine, etc.). Similar quality; pick based on which color story suits your skin and preference.
Medium, buildable. For high-drama pigmentation (think MAC Cosmetics or Viseart), Korean palettes are typically softer. For everyday and natural looks, the buildability is ideal. For bold evening looks, multiple layers achieve the needed intensity.
Any cream/satin finish shadows can crease on oily lids without primer. Apply an eye primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion or similar) to prevent creasing for 6+ hours. Without primer, 4 to 6 hours is typical wear.
Comparable to palettes like Maybelline City Mini or e.l.f. Mad for Matte at similar or lower pricing. Korean palettes tend to have slightly softer formulations and less aggressive shimmers.
6 to 12 months with daily use for most users. Some shades wear down faster than others (the "workhorse" neutral lid shades typically finish first).
