SoonJung is ETUDE HOUSE's sensitive-skin sub-line, formulated with minimal ingredients and dermatology-friendly design. The pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser has been a quiet Korean staple for years, particularly popular among users with reactive, rosacea-adjacent, or easily-irritated skin. pH 6.5 is slightly above skin's natural pH of 5.5, which is intentionally gentle: too-acidic cleansers can still strip sensitive skin; SoonJung's slightly-higher pH creates a milder cleansing experience. At $19.74 for 150ml, it's priced budget-friendly for a pharmacy-quality sensitive cleanser.
The whipped texture is particularly user-friendly: pump dispenses pre-foamed product, so there's no lathering step, you just apply the foam directly. This minimizes the friction of rubbing a cleanser into lather, which matters for barrier-compromised skin.
The pH 6.5 whipped foam cleanses without disrupting the skin's acid mantle significantly. Madecassoside (from centella asiatica) and panthenol calm existing irritation during the cleansing step. Amino-acid-based surfactants dissolve surface residue without the stripping effect of sulfates. Good as morning cleanser or as second cleanse after oil-based makeup removal. Doesn't remove heavy makeup or waterproof products effectively.
Wet face and hands. Pump 1 to 2 presses of foam into palms, apply directly to face without additional lathering. Massage gently for 30 to 60 seconds, avoiding scrubbing motions. Rinse with lukewarm water. Pat dry. Follow with toner. Safe AM and PM; extremely sensitive users may prefer AM-only to preserve natural sebum overnight.
Not at all. pH 6.5 is still much gentler than old-school alkaline soap (pH 9 to 10) and appropriate for sensitive skin that finds pH 5.5 cleansers too acidic. The gentle-cleansing tradeoff is that it's slightly less effective at removing heavy oil-based makeup.
Water-based, easy sunscreens yes. Chemical/physical heavy sunscreens or long-wear foundations need a first-cleanse with oil cleanser. Don't rely on this as a single-step cleanser for full makeup.
Both gentle, ceramide-or-calming-based sensitive cleansers. CeraVe is lotion-style (non-foaming), slightly more moisturizing. ETUDE SoonJung is foam-based, slightly more cleansing power. For extremely dry sensitive skin, CeraVe. For combo sensitive, SoonJung.
2 to 3 months with twice-daily use. Good value-per-ml.
The formulation is gentle enough that many families use it for teens and young children. Not specifically formulated for infants; consult pediatrician for infant cleansing needs.
Pair with ETUDE HOUSE Double Lasting Foundation or the SoonJung toner and cream for full sensitive-skin routine. Browse the ETUDE collection, Korean cleansers, best Korean skincare for sensitive skin.
