"Skin Liar" is Elizavecca's honest name for a primer built to visually lie about your skin texture: blur pores, smooth surface, and create a uniform canvas for foundation. 30ml at $33.70 puts it in budget primer territory, which usually means marginal effectiveness. Elizavecca's version performs above its price class: silicone-heavy enough to actually fill pores, but not so heavy that it feels like a silicone putty.
Primers are the most over-marketed category in makeup, and most of them are either unnecessary (if you have good skin and a good foundation) or ineffective (if they don't target a specific problem). Skin Liar targets pore blurring specifically. It's not a color corrector, not a moisturizing primer, not a longevity primer. Pore blur is the job, and it does it.
Silicone-based polymers fill and smooth the surface of enlarged pores, creating an optically blurred texture underneath foundation. Light-reflecting particles further soften the appearance of texture. The primer sits under foundation without interfering with pigment blending, which is the test of a good primer.
After skincare and SPF, dispense a pea-sized amount onto the back of the hand. Dab onto pore-prone areas (T-zone, cheeks near nose). Blend with fingers or a damp beauty sponge. Let set 30 seconds before applying foundation.
Silicone-based primers can pill under silicone-heavy foundations. Most water-based or hybrid foundations layer cleanly. If pilling, switch the order (less primer) or switch foundations.
Similar mechanism, similar results. Benefit is the western incumbent, priced about 50% higher. Elizavecca matches the performance at a lower price, which is why it's been recommended on Korean beauty forums as an alternative.
Silicone primers are generally non-comedogenic (silicones sit on skin without penetrating), but they can trap sebum and bacteria if not thoroughly cleansed at night. Double cleanse at PM to remove.
Not really. It's a makeup primer with minimal skincare benefit. Skip it on no-makeup days.
