Galactomyces ferment filtrate is one of the most foundational actives in Korean skincare. It's the same fermented yeast ingredient that made SK-II's Facial Treatment Essence famous, at a fraction of the price through brands like Elizavecca. The Milky Piggy Galactomyces Premium is Elizavecca's high-percentage take: approximately 97% Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, which is comparable to SK-II's concentration at roughly 10% the price.
The Milky Piggy line is Elizavecca's "premium" sub-brand with its famously campy Korean pig graphic on the bottle. Pricing at $45.76 for 200ml is reasonable for this active load. Compared to SK-II, you're getting the same primary ingredient but without the luxury formulation polish, packaging, and brand experience. For users who want Galactomyces benefits without luxury pricing, this is the functional equivalent.
Galactomyces ferment filtrate is produced by fermenting a specific yeast strain, which produces a cocktail of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and small peptides. Clinical research on Pitera (SK-II's version of the same ingredient class) shows improved pore appearance, texture, and overall skin radiance with consistent use. Elizavecca uses a high percentage of galactomyces, which matters because at lower concentrations the effect diminishes significantly.
After cleansing and toner, dispense 2 to 3 pumps into palms. Press and pat over face and neck. Let absorb 30 to 60 seconds before next step. Use AM and PM. For maximum effect, use the "essence-pat" method: apply in 2 to 3 thin layers back-to-back, pressing in each before the next. Follow with serum and moisturizer. Always use SPF in the AM when using any active.
Slightly. Galactomyces ferment has a characteristic yeasty/sake-like scent. SK-II has the same signature smell. If you dislike fermented smells, this category isn't for you; try a different brightening approach like vitamin C.
Both use high-concentration Galactomyces. SK-II includes additional proprietary Pitera complex with extra micronutrients. Elizavecca is simpler. For the "real" SK-II experience, there's no substitute, but for the core active benefit, Elizavecca delivers at 10% the price.
Pore appearance improvement: 4 to 6 weeks. Overall radiance: 3 to 4 weeks. Texture: 6 to 8 weeks. Consistency matters; irregular use won't give the results users report.
Low risk for most. Fermented ingredients are generally barrier-supportive. A small minority may experience initial purging (more breakouts in the first 2 weeks) as skin adjusts. If ongoing breakouts continue past 4 weeks, discontinue.
Yes. Galactomyces layers under or over most actives (vitamin C, retinol, niacinamide). It's a versatile base layer.
Pair with a vitamin C serum for AM brightening, or layer under your Korean moisturizer.
