Dr.Jart+ is one of the original Korean cosmeceutical brands, now owned by Estée Lauder after a major acquisition. The Ceramidin line is their flagship barrier-support subfamily, centered on a proprietary 5-cera complex (ceramides 1, 3, 6-II, plus cholesterol and phytosphingosine). This Skin Barrier Serum Toner is a hybrid format: thicker than a traditional toner, lighter than a serum, positioned as the first leave-on step in a barrier-repair routine.
The hybrid toner category is relatively new in Korean skincare: it emerged around 2022 as brands realized that splitting hydration and actives across toner and essence was creating complexity many users didn't want. Dr.Jart+ leaned into the trend with this product, and at $37.44 for 150ml it's competitively priced for the amount of ceramide content in the formula.
Ceramides are the primary lipids that hold the skin barrier together, and the 5-cera complex here is engineered to match the natural ratio in healthy skin. Applied topically in a watery essence-toner format, these ceramides penetrate the top layers of the stratum corneum and reinforce lipid bonds that have been disrupted by over-cleansing, actives, or environmental stress. Niacinamide and panthenol support this work.
After cleansing, apply 2 to 3 pumps onto palms, pat into face and neck. Can replace both your toner and essence steps in a simplified routine. Follow with serum (if using) and moisturizer. Use AM and PM.
A hybrid. Functionally, it replaces the toner step in most routines and does some of what an essence does. It doesn't replace a dedicated treatment serum (vitamin C, retinol, etc.).
No. The ceramide focus is specifically barrier-friendly and can actually reduce retinol irritation when applied as a buffer layer between retinol and moisturizer.
Both are barrier-focused toners. Torriden uses a centella-plus-panthenol approach at a lower price. Dr.Jart+ uses ceramides at a higher price. For barrier repair after active-related damage: Dr.Jart+. For daily barrier maintenance: either.
Twice-daily use: 3 to 4 months.
Yes. Apply the active first, then this as a buffer and hydration layer before cream.
Pair with other Ceramidin line products for a full barrier-repair routine. Browse the Dr.Jart+ collection or Korean toners.
