The Smudging Lip Pencil is BANILA CO's take on the "blurred-lip" aesthetic central to Korean lip looks. Rather than the sharp, defined Western lip liner, this pencil is designed to draw, then smudge with finger or brush for the soft-edged, bitten-look gradient lip. Texture is creamy, with enough pigment to function as both outline and fill. At $23.07 for 0.8g, it's mid-tier priced among Korean lip pencils.
The shade selection leans into the mauve-rose-coral range dominant in K-beauty, with a few deeper berry and brick-red options. Finish is satin, neither glossy nor matte. Long-wear is 4 to 6 hours without topcoat, longer with a clear balm seal. Most users treat it as all-in-one pencil plus fill, which is how the "smudging" name suggests using it.
The creamy pencil formula draws on the lip without tugging, and remains pliable for 10 to 15 seconds after application. This is the window for smudging with finger, cotton swab, or brush to soften the edge. Once set, the pigment stays reasonably transfer-resistant for a few hours. Suitable for a wide range of lip looks: gradient, blurred, full-coverage, overlined, or outlined.
For gradient lip: apply pencil at center of lips, blend outward with fingertip or brush. For full-coverage: outline first, then fill, smudging boundaries. For overlining: apply 1 to 2mm beyond natural lip line (works better with nude-adjacent shades than bold colors where the overline becomes obvious). Seal with clear balm or lip oil to extend wear and add shine.
Minimally if smudged properly. Pure creamy pencils can bleed on very moisturized lips. If bleeding bothers you, apply a clear lip primer first, or let the pencil set 60 seconds before applying gloss.
Not significantly. The formula isn't the moisturizing kind, but it isn't drying like matte liquid lipsticks. Most users find it comfortable 4 to 6 hours without reapplying balm.
ROMAND's pencil is slightly firmer, better for precise liner work. BANILA CO's is creamier, better for smudging and gradient looks. Pick based on use case.
Yes. Fill with pencil, top with gloss for dimension, or cover with a deeper lipstick for layered custom color.
3 to 6 months daily use. Twist-up pencils last longer than they look because the format minimizes breakage and waste.
