BANILA CO is best known for the Clean It Zero cleansing balm, but the brand's makeup-adjacent skincare is where it quietly competes with higher-tier Korean brands. The All Day Prep Hydro UV Serum Base is a triple-duty product: SPF50+ broad-spectrum sunscreen, makeup primer, and hydrating serum. At $31.20 for 35ml, it's priced mid-tier for Korean sunscreen-primer hybrids, in line with the MISSHA All Around Safe Block and cheaper than the IOPE Skin Booster line.
Sunscreen-primer hybrids are tricky to get right. Most either sacrifice SPF protection for makeup-friendliness or cake under foundation. BANILA CO's version runs on the hydration-forward side: the serum base keeps skin dewy underneath foundation rather than mattifying. Best for combination-to-dry skin that needs grip without adding oil.
Provides SPF50+ PA++++ UVA/UVB protection, smooths skin texture for makeup application, and adds a hydration layer with glycerin and hyaluronic acid. The "serum base" description is accurate: the texture is closer to a lightweight gel than a thick primer. Foundation sits on top without separating, and the finish is more skin-like than silicone-heavy primers.
Apply as the last skincare step in your morning routine. Dispense a dime-sized amount, warm between fingers, press into face and neck. Wait 2 to 3 minutes before applying foundation or cushion. Reapply SPF every 2 hours in direct sun (this hybrid counts as the SPF layer). For pure skincare days, use alone as sun protection.
Korean SPF ratings are based on PFA testing (similar standards to Japanese PA). The SPF50+ PA++++ rating is meaningful. However, hybrid products sometimes underperform on protection if you don't apply enough. Use two finger-lengths for face and neck, minimum.
MISSHA is more mattifying, better for oily skin. BANILA CO is dewier, better for normal-to-dry. Both are chemical SPF at similar price points.
Not commonly. The formulation avoids heavy silicones that clog. If you're acne-prone, the fragrance might be a consideration: it's mild but present.
Immediate on makeup-grip and sun protection. Hydration improvement noticeable within a week. This isn't a treatment product, so don't expect transformative skincare results beyond the primer and SPF functions.
Yes. Apply your treatment serum first, let absorb fully (3 minutes), then apply this as the primer + SPF layer. Don't layer over heavy oils or thick creams: it'll pill.
Pair with BANILA CO Clean It Zero Enriching Cleansing Balm as the evening cleanser to remove this SPF base.
