Most hydrating serums open the ingredient list with aqua (water). Anua's Birch Moisture Boosting Serum opens with 73% birch sap. That's the swap at the heart of this product: rather than dissolving actives into plain water, Anua uses birch tree water, a traditional Northern European and Korean mineral-rich liquid with its own hydrating and antioxidant properties. The shift makes this one of the more unusual hydrating serums in the Korean category.
Anua rounds out the formula with panthenol, niacinamide at a low concentration, and ceramides. The result is a clear, slightly viscous serum that feels instantly quenching on dry or wind-stripped skin. Not a dramatic treatment product. Good barrier support, good hydration, honest positioning as a daily moisture booster rather than a miracle active.
Birch sap contains naturally-occurring manganese, zinc, and amino acids that support barrier function. Panthenol and niacinamide calm low-grade inflammation. Ceramides help lock moisture in. The overall effect is a plump, dewy finish that lasts through makeup or another routine layer. Not an anti-aging serum; a barrier-first hydration step.
After cleansing and toner, apply 3 to 4 drops to slightly damp skin. Press gently, then layer your next serum or moisturizer. Can be used AM and PM. For extra-dry winter mornings, apply twice: once on damp skin, let absorb, then again before cream. Follow with SPF in the morning.
Pairs well with actives: use as a buffer between a retinol or vitamin C serum and your cream.
Birch sap has documented trace mineral content and amino acids that support the skin barrier. It's not a miracle active, but it's not marketing fluff either. Whether you'll notice a difference versus water-based serums depends on skin type. Dry and reactive skin tends to respond well. Oily skin won't see dramatic difference.
Different mechanism. HA serums draw water into the skin surface. Birch sap delivers mineral and amino-acid nourishment plus some hydration. For deep plump, HA. For barrier-focused hydration and calming, birch. They can be layered: HA first, birch sap over it.
Immediate dewy finish. Sustained skin comfort and reduced tightness over 2 weeks. Long-term barrier improvement over 6 to 8 weeks of daily use.
The formula is free of retinoids and essential oils that typically prompt pregnancy concern. However, always confirm with your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
No. The formula is non-comedogenic and the texture is lightweight. Oily skin can use it as a standalone hydration layer under SPF without adding heaviness.
Pair with Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol Pore Deep Cleansing Foam as the cleanse step, or layer with Anua Niacinamide 10 + TXA 3 Serum for tone correction.
