Abib built its reputation on the Heartleaf Spot Pad, and this soap extends that same heartleaf-first philosophy into the first-cleanse step. The Calming Facial Soap is a cold-process bar formulated with 72% natural oils and Houttuynia Cordata (heartleaf) extract, the calming anti-inflammatory Abib is known for. Unlike most Korean cleansing foams, this is a true soap bar, which tends to divide K-beauty shoppers: purists love the no-preservative simplicity, but some sensitive skin types find bar soaps drying.
The bar is cold-processed rather than hot-poured, which preserves glycerin and keeps the bar slightly softer than industrial soap. At $16.64 for 100g, it sits at the affordable end of Abib's lineup and works well as a cleanser for normal to oily skin that wants the heartleaf anti-inflammatory benefit without added foaming surfactants. For dry or barrier-compromised skin, the Abib Heartleaf Cleansing Foam is the gentler choice.
Heartleaf extract calms inflammation and helps regulate sebum output. The cold-process soap base dissolves oil-based sunscreen and makeup residue without leaving a film. 72% natural oils (olive, coconut, palm) mean the bar cleans without stripping. It's a second-cleanse step after an oil cleanser, or a standalone morning cleanser for normal skin types who don't need more than water-and-soap simplicity.
Wet hands and rub the bar between palms to generate lather. Apply foam to a damp face, massage 20 to 30 seconds, rinse with lukewarm water. Follow immediately with toner; don't let skin air-dry. Use morning and evening, or evening only if your skin runs dry. Store the bar on a well-draining dish between uses so it can cure between applications (cold-process soap lasts longer when it dries out fully).
Traditional hot-process grocery store soap, yes, often too alkaline. Cold-process soaps with high natural oil content are gentler. Abib's bar still runs around pH 9 to 10, which is higher than skin's pH 5.5, so follow with a pH-adjusting toner (such as a PHA or mild acid toner) to rebalance quickly after cleansing. Don't skip toner with any bar soap.
On normal to oily skin, no. On dry, mature, or sensitized skin, possibly. If your skin feels tight 5 minutes after cleansing, this bar is too strong for you, and the Abib Heartleaf Foam Cleanser is a better match.
Used twice daily on the face only, 2 to 3 months. Used as a body bar, 3 to 6 weeks. Drying the bar fully between uses extends life significantly.
Body yes, as a gentle body bar. Hair, not recommended. The pH is wrong for hair, and you'd end up with build-up.
Different formats, same core philosophy. The foam is pH 5.5 (skin-matched), tube-based, and better for dry or sensitive skin. The bar is pH 9 to 10, traditional soap format, and better for oily or combination skin. The foam is also roughly $8 more expensive.
Pair with Abib Heartleaf Spot Pad as the follow-up toner layer, or add the Abib Jericho Rose PHA Toner to rebalance pH after cleansing. Browse the full Abib collection or related categories: Korean cleansers, best Korean skincare for sensitive skin.
